WHICH DID CONGRESS CUT OUT OF JEFFERSON'S DRAFT OF THE DECLARATION?
All references to slavery. The Congress made 86 changes, which eliminated 480 of Jefferson's words. They removed all references to slavery, "the execrable commerce." Jefferson, a slaveholder himself, had criticized Britain's role in the slave trade in his original draft.
