How did imperialism increase tensions in Europe?

What were the alliances before the start of World War 1?

The Triple Entente included Great Britain, Russia, and France. The Triple Alliance included Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. Great Britain also had a side alliance with Belgium.

What is militarism?

The policy of building up strong armed nations to prepare for war.
