Latitude
Imaginary lines that run from East to West on the globe. These lines measure distance both North and South from the Equator. They are also known as parallels.
International Date Line
180 degrees longitude/ exactly halfway across the globe from the Prime Meridian.
Hemisphere
A half of the Earth. The Earth has four: Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western
Longitude
A set of imaginary lines, also called meridians, that run north and south from one pole to another; used to measure distance east or west of the Prime Meridian.
Absolute location
Indicates where a place is exactly located using it's latitude and longitude (coordinates)
North Pole
The farthest latitude north of the Equator (90 degrees north)
South Pole
The farthest latitude south of the Equator (90 degrees south)
Equator
The line of latitude that is located directly in the center of the North and South poles.
Prime Meridian
The line of longitude, located at 0° longitude, near Greenwich, England.
Eastern Hemisphere
the half of Earth east of the Prime Meridian
Southern Hemisphere
the half of the Earth south of the equator
Western Hemisphere
the half of the Earth that is west of the prime meridian
Northern Hemisphere
the half of the earth north of the equator
