Brinksmanship
A policy known as brinksmanship developed, in which each side would push the other side to the "brink" of war, in order to show that their threats were serious. The goal was to get the enemy to back down, making your side seem more powerful, without actually going to war.
The Warsaw Pact
Alliance formed on May 14, 1955. Warsaw was the communist capital of Poland. The Warsaw Pact made up of communist states, like Poland, USSR, East Germany, etc.
Competing Economic Systems for the Major Powers
Communism: Communism is an economic system in which the people as a whole own all the natural resources, factories, mines and the land of their country. In theory, all citizens profit from the resources of a country. In practice, the government owns everything, sets all prices, employs everyone, and distributes all profits. Capitalism: Capitalism is an economic system in which citizens own private property and are entitled to profit from it. In a capitalist country, almost all the natural resources, factories, mines and land are owned by individuals. They keep the profits from what they own.
How the Cold War Ended?
Ended 1991. During 1989 and 1990, the Berlin Wall came down, borders opened, and free elections ousted Communist regimes everywhere in eastern Europe. In late 1991 the Soviet Union itself dissolved into its component republics. With stunning speed, the Iron Curtain was lifted and the Cold War came to an end.
NATO Pact
Formed April 4, 1949, means North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the thing NATO countries have in common is an agreement to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party, countries mostly to the west of the Iron Curtain. Ex: US, UK, Belguim, etc.
Brezhnev Doctrine
If anyone threatened the communist party's monopoly in Soviet satellite nations, the USSR would interfere with political and military force. Doctrine expounded by Leonid Brezhnev in November 1968
How did rock 'n roll help create the generation gap?
Many adults may have disapproved rock 'n roll because of the dance moves and the generation gap it presented the separation between children and their parents, parents condemned rock 'n roll as loud, mindless, and dangerous. This disapproval led to the generation gap because parents were feeling separated from their children.

Russians first in space with Sputnik, a satellite. United States first to land on the moon. Countries were creating more powerful and bigger bombs, to see which country was more powerful.

is any kind of a civil defence structure designed to provide protection against the effects of a bomb. A fallout shelter is an enclosed space specially designed to protect occupants from radioactive debris or fallout resulting from a nuclear explosion. Many such shelters were constructed as civil defence measures during the Cold War.
