Hybrid

A combination of two or more different topologies makes for a hybrid topology.

Peripheral

A device connected to a computer.

Ring

A ring network is a network topolgy in which each node connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a sintle continuous pathway for signals through each node.

Bus

All devices are connected to a central cable, called the bus or backbone.

Star

In a star network topology, also called point to point, all devices are within direct communication range to the coordinator, throught which all messages are routed.

Mesh

Mesh networking is a type of networking wherein each node in the network may act as an independent router, regardless of whether it is connected to another network or not.

Topologies

Refers to the layout of the network, how different nodes of the network are connected and how they communicate.

Node

Similar to peripheral, a node is a device that is connected to a computer, for example a printer.

Characteristics of Topologies

Topologies are ways of connecting networks together using nodes. Daisy Chains, and Point-to-Point are ways of connecting these networks. Fully connected means that each nodes are connected to a independent router.

Tree

Tree topology combines characteristics of linear bus, and star topologies. It consists of groups of star-configured workstations connected to a linear bus backbone cable.
