Because Spain needed to populate The area to create a buffer zone to drive the French away. There was cheap vast land. So they gave cheap land prices and low taxes. Americans wanted Texas land to farm and with all of the good prices and low taxes they thought it was a great opportunity.

After the Battle of the Alamo and Goliad, Sam Houston took the Texas army to East Texas. He would train his troops and prepare to meet Santa Anna. Eventually, he was informed that Santa Anna was close to his position at the San Jacinto River. The Texans would surprise the Mexicans and be victories after only 18 minutes. Santa Anna would be captured and sign a treaty to end the war. Texas would win its independence from Mexico and become a republic.

what happened in The Massacre at Goliad?

Around the same time at the Alamo, Mexican forces were sent to take back Goliad. General Jose Urrea was in charge of this mission. Fannin, which lead the Texas troops in Goliad had conflicting orders to help William B. Travis at the Alamo and from Sam Houston to stay in Goliad. Failing to act fast on any order, he would get his men surrounded by Mexican troops in an open prairie. They would surrender to the Mexicans but under Santa Anna's order, they all would be executed.

Law of April 6th, Stephen F. Austin prison, Santa Anna becoming a dictator. This is similar to the American revolution because there was a Cuban dictator, Batista, who wasn't on there side and he ignored them and didn't give the colonists rights.

Mexico gave the people of Gonzales a cannon for protection against the Indians. Santa Anna saw this in records. He wanted it back and sent troops to get it. Texans refused and created the Flag. Texans attacked the Mexicans and won.

News spread about the events in Texas. Santa Anna responded fiercely and brought 5,000 troops to take back the Alamo. There was only 200 Texas in the Alamo. The siege and battle lasted almost two weeks. The Texans were greatly outnumbered and event fell to the Mexican Army.

Changed Minds: Santa Anna broke his word when - He kept the Mexican government Centralist, did not allow Texas to become its own separate providence/state in Mexico, kept the "Law of April 6th ", imprisoned Stephen F. Austin, and made himself dictator.

what happened in Siege and Capture of San Antonio?

The Texas army was led by S. F. Austin and they laid siege on San Antonio. General Cos was there along with the main Mexican forces occupying Texas. A battle waged on for four days with the Texans gaining the upper hand and forcing General Cos to surrender. The Texans made Cos and his men to swear to never come back to Texas and they returned back home to Mexico.
