Consequences of sin

- Alienates people from God - Kills charity - Causes the Loss of Sacramental grace - Crushes lives, hardens hearts, weakens intellects, enslaves wills - Creates a habit (vice) What results from vice? - Clouding of conscience - Corrupts judgement of good and evil Sin is relational because it causes harm to others: either specific harm to individuals or adding to the mistrusts and habits of sin in society.

- Grave matter - Full knowledge - Full consent - Rejection of god and god's presence in us. To persist in mortal sin is to condemn ourselves to spend eternity without god

Venial Sin

- Less serious than mortal - results from bad habits or laziness rather than conscious science - impresses the formation of virtues - if unchecked venial sin often leads to mortal sin
