"thus, sin makes men accomplices of one another and causes concupiscence, violence, and injustice to reign among them." Catechism 1869

- Adjectives such as "stubborn, "stiff-necked" or "hard-hearted" are associated with pesha. - The parable of the rich man and Lazarus points to sin as injustice. - The image or support of archery connects with the Old Testament term called Hattah
Consequences of sin
- Alienates people from God - Kills charity - Causes the Loss of Sacramental grace - Crushes lives, hardens hearts, weakens intellects, enslaves wills - Creates a habit (vice) What results from vice? - Clouding of conscience - Corrupts judgement of good and evil Sin is relational because it causes harm to others: either specific harm to individuals or adding to the mistrusts and habits of sin in society.

Mortal Sin
- Grave matter - Full knowledge - Full consent - Rejection of god and god's presence in us. To persist in mortal sin is to condemn ourselves to spend eternity without god

- Hattah- "Missing the Mark" Aiming for the wrong target. turning a good thing into an idol. - Pesha- "rebellion" stubbornly refusing to accept the good. - Awon- "inequity" The consequences of sin, the punishment due for sin.
Venial Sin
- Less serious than mortal - results from bad habits or laziness rather than conscious science - impresses the formation of virtues - if unchecked venial sin often leads to mortal sin
