Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated by a Serbian nationalist, also known as Gavrillo Princip. Trench warfare is when one side would climb out of their trench to go into the opposing trench in order to fight the enemy.

Unifying force within a country. Extreme pride/desire for self-rule/independence. *Europeans nurtured a firm belief in the cultural supremacy of their country over others*. Newspapers were filled with Nationalist rhetoric. and demonized rival nations made them look aggressive, scheming, and uncivilized in order to look superior.
