-2 million soldiers died. -The battle of verdun was the longest battle, nobody won due to trench warfare -Nothing was being gained. There was no breakthrough for the Allies. One million people died 4 months later

How did this industrialization affect soldiers and those on the homefront in WWI?

-Britain was able to have more success over Germany due to better technology. -Guns, tanks, airplanes, automobiles, ammunition, and replacement parts were produced for war effort. -Soldiers that had better technology had a higher chance of winning the war.

-Machine guns were used to cause mass casualties during war. -Submarines were used to attack battle ships -Airplanes were used to see the opponent easier and spy on their trenches.

What effect did the treaty of versailles have on Germany?

-They can no longer rise to military power -Germany must accept the damages caused by the War -Germany must pay France 20,000,000,000 gold marks to cover the damages made.

-Wanted Germany to pay for all of the damages that France suffered during the four years of fighting. -To make sure war never like that happened again, he made Germany returned back their land, pay money, and allowed France to take possession of the Rhineland.

Causes of World War I: Militarism

A policy of glorifying military power and keeping a standing army always prepared for war. Germany builds its navy to rival Britain. Britain and Germany spend money building their navy. New Battleship (Dreadnought) became a new tech in battle, Germany will counter it with U-Boats.

Advancements in Industrial production made manufacturing faster and allowed factory workers to produce more goods with efficency. Also, factories were now able to mass produce goods.

Causes of WWI: Assassination of the Heir to the Austrian/Hungarian throne

Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assasinated by a Serbian nationalist, also known as Gavrillo Princip. Serbians were unhappy with Austria-Hungary controlling their Bosnian brothers, whom they wanted reunited with Serbia. Austria-Hungary was the powerhouse of Central Europe and Serbians feared they would take all of Serbia.

President of the U.S during WWI who created the "Fourteen points" to prevent wars in the future. His points are: Europeans should be allowed to have self-determination, empires from European countries must end, Italy could not take the Adriatic coast, and a league of nations must be set up to settle disputes between countries in the future. *Shows nationalism*

Trench warfare is when one side would climb out of their trench to go into the opposing trench in order to fight the enemy.

Unifying force within a country. Extreme pride/desire for self-rule/independence. *Europeans nurtured a firm belief in the cultural supremacy of their country over others*. Newspapers were filled with Nationalist rhetoric. and demonized rival nations made them look aggressive, scheming, and uncivilized in order to look superior.
