Medial Antibrachial Cutaneous Nerve

(not shown)

Lateral Cutaneous nerve of forearm (lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve)

(terminal musculocutaneous nerve) Nerve innervates muscles of anterior compartment of arm.

Coracobrachialis: Actions:

- flexes & adducts arm at shoulder joint - resists dislocation of shoulder joint

Biceps brachii: Innervation:

- musculocutaneous nerve (C5, C6)

Brachialis: Innervation:

- musculocutaneous nerve (C5, C6) - Lateral portions may receive radial nerve contributions

Coracobrachialis: Innervation:

- musculocutaneous nerve (C5, C6, C7)

Coracobrachialis: Proximal Attachment:

-coracoid process of scapula

Brachialis: Distal Attachment:

-coronoid process and tuberosity of ulna

Brachialis: Proximal Attachment:

-distal 1⁄2 of anterior surface of humerus

Brachialis: Actions:

-flexes forearm at elbow joint

Biceps brachii: Proximal Attachment:

-long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula -short head: coracoid process of scapula

Coracobrachialis: Distal Attachment:

-middle 1/3 of medial humeral surface

Biceps brachii: Distal Attachment:

-radial tuberosity and fascia of forearm via bicipital aponeurosis

Biceps brachii: Actions:

-supinates forearm, when supine willflex forearm -resists dislocation of shoulder (short head)

Cubital Fossa: Superficial Structures

Basilic vein travels just lateral to neurovascular bundle (median nerve with brachial artery) Muscles Arteries just look at them

Cubital Fossa: Subcutaneous Structures

Cephalic, basilic, and median cubital vein. median antibrachial vein Lateral Cutaneous nerve, Mesial cutaneous nerve of forarm

Vasculature of Arm & Forearm

Continuing Path of Blood SupplyFrom Arm (brachium) into Forearm (antebrachium)

Posterior to the Cubital Region:

Elbow Region • triceps and olecranon process • anconeus (red star)

Cubital Fossa: Deep Structures

Median nerve travels between two heads of pronator teres

What are the 2 neurovascular bundles found in the anterior compartment?

Median nerve with brachial artery and veins Ulnar nerve with collateral artery and veins

Triceps and biceps brachii do what:

Mitigate so you don't hyperextend or anything

Anterior Flexor compartment muscles innervated by:

Musculocutaneous nerve

superior lateral cutaneous nerveof arm (superior lateral brachial cutaneous nerve)

Originates from axillary nerve

Posterior (extensor) compartment is innervated by:

RADIAL NERVE

What is the neuromuscular bundle found in the posterior compartment?

Radial nerve with collateral arteries and vein

What divides the anterior and posterior aspects of the arm?

The Medial and Lateral intermuscular septa

Musculature of the Arm: Anterior (Flexor) Compartment

biceps brachii long head, short head brachialis coracobrachialis

Where do supraclavicular nerves come from?

branches of the cervical plexus, not brachial plexus

Medial cutaneous nerve of arm (medial brachial cutaneous nerve)

cutaneous innervation to the rest of the mesial aspect of the arm

Posterior compartment

extensors

Anterior compartment

flexors

The Cubital Fossa:

junction between the arm (brachium) & forearm regions (antebrachium)

Muscles that flex are innervated by

medial or lateral cord

Muscles that extend are innervated by

posterior cord

posterior ulnar recurrent artery also runs ____ to ____ epicondyle

posterior; medial

ulnar nerve runs _____ to ____ epicondyle of humerus

posterior; medial

First branch of brachial artery

profunda brachii artery (deep brachial artery) splits to post. (middle collateral) and ant. descending (radial collateral) branch

Intercostaobrachial nerve (T2 intercostal nerves)

provides cutaneous innervation to the mesial aspect of the arm. Responsible for referred pain on left side of the heart (radiating pain down left limb sign of heart attack)

Posterior cutaneous nerve of arm (posterior brachial cutaneous nerve)

radial nerve organ. Posterior cutaneous innervation

Posterior (Extensor) Compartment

triceps brachii (long, lateral, and medial head) anconeus

Median nerve travels through

two heads of pronator teres
