The cells of the juxtaglomerular apparatus function by:

decreasing or increasing glomerular filtration by a feedback loop

what the corpus luteum is and does.

- a hormone-secreting structure that develops in an ovary after an ovum has been discharged but degenerates after a few days unless pregnancy has begun. Seceretes high levels of progestrone that help maintain pregnancy and moderate levels estrogen. If pregnancy doesn't occur the corpus leteum degenerates and menstruation occurs

How do how medications work with bile components to lower cholesterol levels?

Bile acids are made up of cholesterol. 80% of bile salts are recycled back into the liver and 20% is excreted out the body. The body then takes cholesterol from the blood to make more bile salts to replace it. Medications affect the numbers to maybe 60% recycled and 40% excreted lowering cholesterol levels in the body.

After ovulation the mature follicle then becomes a structure known as the __________________ which produces progesterone which is an important hormone in maintaining a pregnancy.

Corpus luteum

What are the 2 types of nephrons ?

Cortical Nephron and Juxtamedullary Nephron

The Pampiniform plexus is a network of veins that drain blood from the testicles and also work to warm up the blood in adjacent arteries that are delivering blood to the testicles. (True or False?)

False

4 phases of Menstrual Cycle

Profeliertive phase- endometrium is lost -Secretory stage the endometrium thickens -Premenstrual Phase- spasms causes menstrual cramps -Menstrual- discharge of menstrual fluid first day of discharge is the first day of the cycle.

The uterus in female rats is shaped differently than that of humans because:

Rats birth babies in litters

Trace the flow of sperm

Seminiferous tubule--- rete testes--- efferent ductules--- duct of the epididymis--- vas deferens--- terminal ampulla--- ejaculatory duct--- urethra.

1. Respiratory volume inhaled and exhaled during normal breathing is called

Tidal Volume

5. When the diaphragm moves down, the lungs inflate due to increased volume which demonstrates Boyle's law (True or False?)

True

The descending loop of Henle is more permeable to water than it is to salt. (True or False?)

True

The uterus narrows to an opening and this is called the cervix. (True or False?)

True

There is a bone in most male mammal penises but humans do not have this structure. (True or False?)

True

Urine is formed from the filtrate that is filtered from the blood. (True or False?)

True

The structure responsible for draining the bladder is the __________________.

Urethra

8. The waste product is called __________________ when it is traveling through the collecting duct

Urine

Explain the glass dome/ balloon.

When you breathe in the lungs expand and the diaphragm or balloon flattens and when we exhale the balloon fills up and the diaphragm budges out. With Boyle's law there is an increase in volume and a decrease in pressure when you inhale so the diaphragm flattens and then you have a decrease and volume and increase in pressure when you exhale so the diaphragm bulges.

What teeth tissue can be regenerated?

cementum and dentin

What are the two types of digestion

chemical(stomach) and mechanical(mouth)

The stretchy material at the bottom of the glass/balloon model represents which structure in your anatomy

diaphragm

what teeth tissue can NOT be regenerated?

enamel, crown, root

What is the juxtaglomerular apparatus in the kidney?

it helps in the regulating the function of nephrons. This is mainly involved in the secretion of renin and EPO in response to changes in the renal blood pressure or blood flow.

3 slides under the microscope.

lungs colon ?

Trace the pathway of food through digestive tract

oral cavity-orophranyx(bolus)-laryngopharnyx-esophagus- stomach(chyme)-pyloric sphincter-duodenum-jejunum-ilium-cecum-large intestine-colon-ascending colon-transverse colon-descending colon-sigmoid colon-rectum-anus

What is the OS penis?

penile bone in mammals except humans it is connective tissue under the influence of androgens. The "os penis" in male mammals help erect the animals faster for ejaculation so animals can reproduce faster without fear of being killed by predator
