A&P CH 19 Blood Vessels and Circulation
Which chamber of the heart receives blood from the systemic circuit?
Right atrium
Distinguish among efferent vessels, afferent vessels, and exchange vessels.
efferent vessels = arteries/ carry blood away from the heart afferent vessels = veins/ carry blood to heart exchange vessels = capillaries / exchange nutrients, dissolved gases & wastes bw the interstitial fluid
What are the 2 major circulatory routes? How are they similar?
pulmonary circuit systemic circuit both begin & end at heart and
Describe the pulmonary circuit.
transports blood from RVent through the pulmonary arteries, capillaries in the lungs, & pulmonary veins & returns it to the LA (All BVs that take deoxy blood to the gas exchange surfaces of the lungs & returns oxy blood back to heart)
Describe the systemic circuit.
transports blood through the arteries, capillaries, and veins of the body from the left ventricle to the right atrium. (all BVs which carry oxygenated blood to the tissues & returns deoxy blood to heart)
