Benjamin
The oldest animal and the only donkey that lives on Animal Farm. He is cynical, ill-tempered, and complains a lot, but he is also caring, contemplative, and wise.

October Revolution
Alexander Kerensky took control (favored by everyone), doesn't end war, angers army (2 million desert) and generals and Bolsheviks, everyone rebells, palace surrounded, Kerensky escapes, Bolsheviks take power.

Old Major (Lenin)
Oldest, wisest, highly regarded. Gives a speech about his dreams for a better life out from under the rule of tyrannical humans. He starts the idea of a revolution and represents hope.
Squealer (propaganda)
Clever, good speaker, excellent at persuading the other animals. Napoleon's spokesperson who delivers his orders, explains his choices and tells lies to support Napoleon.
Bandwagon
Everybody's doing it, so you should too
Boxer (Working Class)
Hardworking, deadicated, and loyal. Fights bravely against the humans. He's too loyal, which is taken advantage of is worked until he collapses. Sold to a slaughterhouse.

Incompetent, helped start WWI (w/ Kaiser), tried to close down the government, stepped down
Snowball (Trotsky)
Intelligent, animated, came up with new ideas, brave fighter, and cares about the working animals. His plans/ideas revolve around providing education and better conditions on the farm. Organizes the animals during 'The Battle of the Cowshed'.
Moses the Raven
Jones's spy, disliked by the other animals, tells stories of Sugarcandy Mountain (awesome animal afterlife) which angers the pigs, becomes an ally of the pigs, helps keep the other animals in control.
Trotsky
Led the Bolsheviks against Alexander Kerensky, became part of foreign affairs after Kerensky left, was going to replace Lenin but Stalin got him ran out.
Stalin's rise to power
Lenin tries to prevent Stalin from being his successor, but dies before it happens. Trotsky was going to replace him, but Stalin gets him run out of the country. He betrays anyone who's no longer useful, rises up, and becomes Russia's leader.
New Economic Plan (NEP)
Lenin's 1921 policy to re-establish limited economic freedom in an attempt to rebuild agriculture and industry in the face of economic disintegration

Pretend to be one of the common people ex: rich people eating at McDonald's/hanging out like a regular person, "slumming it"

Russian leader who succeeded Lenin as head of the Communist Party and created a totalitarian state by purging all opposition, betrayed everyone not useful to him, ran off Trotsky

Plot of Animal Farm
a group of animals rebel against humans and become their own masters. Things work smoothly at first, and the animals revel in their freedom and have equality. However, the pigs become power-hungry and become the new oppressors of the animals and become indistinguishable from humans.
