Culture-bound syndrome
A mental disorder specific to a particular cultural group.
Intersexual
A person born with reproductive organs, genitalia and/or sex chromosomes that are not exclusively male or female.
Transgender
A person who willingly changes their gender identity.....apparently it's all a 'binary' social-construction
Dependence Training
Childrearing practices that foster compliance in the performance of assigned tasks and dependence on the domestic group, rather than reliance on oneself.
Independence Training
Childrearing practices that foster independence, self-reliance and personal achievment.
Temporal Orientation
One's sense of their position in a continuum
Normative Orientation
Standards that indicate what ranges of behaviour are acceptable.
Object Orientation
The cultural explanation of one's surroundings. Imposes a measure of order and provides individual with sense of direction.
Personality
The distinctive way a person thinks, feels and behaves.
Spatial Orientation
The way in which one gets from one object or place to another.
Modal Personality
Those character traits that occur with the highest frequence in a social group and are therefore the most representative of its culture.
Core values
Those values especialy promoted by a particular culture.
