Software that was originally a commercial product that through time, lack of popularity, or updates can no longer be sold at the initial release price.

Definition of Application Software

Software utilized by the computer to perform specific tasks. Its associated with the processing cycle which has three events associated with it; input, process, output.

Presentation Graphics

Application software is that provides the ability to create and modify presentations. Presentations are used to convey ideas and can bee demonstrated on many different types of media such as paper, slide shows, or more sophisticated audio and visual effects.

Multimedia

Application software that allows the user the ability to create and modify applications using audio(sound) and video(pictures).

Project Management

Application software that allows the user to plan, schedule, track, analyze the events associate with a project.

Personal Information Managers

Application software that contains at least an appointment book(or calendar), address book, and notepad.

Legal

Application software that provides that ability to create and modify legal documents.

Graphics

Application software that provides the ability to create and modify graphics (such as pictures and drawings).

Database

Application software that provides the ability to enter and edit numbers and text, then retrieve different combinations of this information using sorts, queries, and finds. Information is contained in files or tables. Files or tables are comprised of field and records.

Financial

Application software that provides the ability to track financial transactions associated with a business or non-business entity.

Communication

Application software which provides an interface for users to communicate with one another. examples e-mail, remote access, video conferencing, browser, instant messaging

M. Recreation

Programs that provide fun and present challenges are viewed as recreational software. This is a very broad software category and large in base.
