A city in northern France on the North Sea Significant because that's where in World War II (1940) 330,000 Allied troops had to be evacuated from the beaches at Dunkirk in a desperate retreat under enemy fire.

A movement to create a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Significant because it was a place where Jews could immigrate and Jews marked their spot in the world.
Palestine
A territory in the Middle East on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Disputed with Israel. Significant because VIolent attempts to control land have defined much of the history of Palestine making it the site of constant political conflict. People of Palestine have a strong desire to create a free and independent state in a contested region of the world that is considered scared by many groups.
Battle of Britain
An aerial battle fought in World War II in 1940 between the German Luftwaffe (air force), which carried out extensive bombing in Britain, and the British Royal Air Force, which offered successful resistance. Significant because marked the first major defeat of Germany's military forces, with air superiority seen as the key to victory. Britain was able to rebuild its military forces and establish itself as an Allied stronghold, later serving as a base from which the Liberation of Western Europe was launched.
Joseph Goebbels
Chief minister of the Nazi propaganda, and organizer of Kristallnacht. Significant because his propaganda machine stretched over all media of the time, he became a figure to be feared, especially by the jew, who was now in the crosshairs of the Nazi party.
Auschwitz
City Located in southern Poland. Significant because Was the Largest concentration camp. Estimated 1.1 million died in that camp

City in Germany Significant because the place at which the trials against the Nazis were held after the war to determine thier punishments for the war crimes that they had committed

Claus von Stauffenberg and other conspirators attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler, by putting a bomb in his briefcase but it did not kill him inside his Wolf's Lair field headquarters near Rastenburg, East Prussia. Significant because Hitler did not have many Germans on his side as he thought he did and many people did not support him even though they were from Germany

German Nazi who was chief of the SS and the Gestapo and who oversaw the genocide of six million Jews (1900-1945) Significant because he was the one essentially laid the plans and devised the schemes that led to the killings of six million jews
Herman Goring (German)
German Political and military leader as well as the most powerful figures in the Nazi party Significant because he played a prominent role in organizing the Nazi police state in Germany and established concentration camps for the "corrective treatment" of individuals
Adolf Hitler
German politician and leader of the Nazi Party. He rose to power to become dictator of Germany, serving as Chancellor from 1933 and Führer from 1934. During his dictatorship from 1933 to 1945, he initiated World War II in Europe by invading Poland in September 1939 and caused the Holocaust significant because he was the one who started WW2 and caused 6 million Jews to die by leading the holocaust
The Final Solution
a Nazi plan for the genocide of Jews during World War II. The "Final Solution of the Jewish Question" was the official code name for the murder of all Jews within reach, which was not restricted to the European continent. Significant because Nazis had a plan to kill 11 million Jews but ended up killing 6 million so nazis had way worse ideas for jews but those ideas did not happen
Luftwaffe
the German air force before and during World War II Significant because of most technologically advanced air forces in the world. In the spring of 1940, the Luftwaffe contributed to the unexpected success in the Battle of France. It destroyed three Allied Air Forces and helped secure the defeat of France in just over six weeks

was the leader of the Soviet Union. Significant because the soviet union was transformed from a peasant society into an industrial and military superpwer.
