Explain Features of Static IP address?

-Simple (User manually assigns IP, subnet, Default Gateway, DNS) -Manual -Time Consuming -Human Error chance is High -Impractical for Large Networks

Features of ZeroConf?

Link-Local Address (for LAN only. Like APIPA and DHCP) mDNS - no need for DNS server. -Zeroconf IP is able to resolve Domain to IP on its own. -has access to Network Services on LAN for File Service, Printer Service using SLP, SSDP, DNS-SP

Is APIPA routable to the Internet?

NO -APIPA IP for LAN network only. - Can only talk among Switches -Can't go past Router.

How many Components of IP address are there?

Four -IP Address (of device) -Subnet Mask -Default Gateway (Router IP) -Server Address DNS or WINS DNS - to go to Internet - converts Domain Name to IP address Eg: Google to 8.8.8.8 WINS - to stay w/in LAN network - converts NETBIOS Name to IP address Eg: Desktop-Jason is assigned IP address Why? For LAN devices to communicate among Each other.

Is Link-Local Address like APIPA where it gets 169.254.x.x?

NOPE Link-Local Address like APIPA in that its for LAN network only -can't go past Router to Internet. But it's not 169.254 ranged IP. That's APIPA

How to configure APIPA in Windows computer?

TCP/IP properties -> Alternate Configuration TAB

How many ways of Assigning IP address (Private)?

Two ways -Static ip addressing -Dynamic ip addressing

How many ways of Assigning AUTOMATIC IP?

Two ways of assigning Automatic IP -DYNAMIC (using DHCP server) -APIPA (when DHCP is down)

Two ways of assigning Automatic IP -DYNAMIC (using DHCP server) -APIPA (when DHCP is down)

T

Two ways to Assign AUTOMATIC IP -Dynamic (using DHCP server) -APIPA (when DHCP server is Down) Automatic Private IP Address (APIPA) -DHCP server cannot provide Address or -Client can't reach DHCP server (in LAN) You have the Computer assign ITSELF an APIPA address =Self-Assigned address In WINDOWS Found in "Alternate Configuration TAB" under "TCP/IP property" This will pull IP randomly from 169.254.x.x scope Eg: I put 10 Clients in LAN w NO dhcp server. They all Default to their own APIPA IP. Problem APIPA is Not Routable to outside Network. We can talk on that Switch but can't go past Router. So if you ever have 169.254.x.x IP address and you can't connect to Internet. It's cuz APIPA can't get past Router to Internet.

T

How many Server Addresses are there in IP Address component?

TWO -DNS -WINS

EXAM Know wat DHCP gives to Clients

-IP address (user device) -Subnet Mask -Default Gateway (Router IP) -Server Address DNS Server (to go outside Network to Internet) or WINS Server (to stay inside the Network)

Explain Features of Dynamic IP address?

-Quicker -Easier -Less prone to Human Errors -Better for Large Networks

How long can you Lease the IP from the Pool of DHCP?

As long as you ONLINE and you RENEWED it.

Zeroconf is the updated version of APIPA?

Yes

Assigning IP Addresses How to assign IPv4 IP addresses for Private IP? Two ways STATIC = Manually DYNAMIC = Automatically To get Results -To assign IP on Devices. -IP address -Subnet mask -DNS address / WINS -Gateway address STATIC -Simple Process I give its "IP, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, DNS Server". -Time Consuming Why? If 20 devices on Network, 20 times the Work -Human Error Prone Easy to Mistype the numbers -Impractical for Large Networks Some have 50K thousands Computers. Full Time JOB and Waste of Man-power Resources. Instead go for DYNAMIC way. DYNAMIC -Quicker Method -Easier Method -Less Confusing Method -Simple for Large Networks Your Home Network is DYNAMIC IP addressing highly. How u know? Did you TYPE your own IP Manually for any Device? NO -> then its Dynamic IP addressing. You picked a Wireless SSID and Router handed you an IP dynamically. ON EXAM Components of IP Address (Static/Dynamic IP) Four of them -IP address (user device) -Subnet Mask -Default Gateway (Router IP) -Server Address DNS Server (to go outside Network to Internet) or WINS Server (to stay inside the Network) DNS = converts Domain Name to IP address Eg: Google is 8.8.8.8 WINS = converts NETBIOS Name (PC Name) to IP address Eg: Desktop-PC to Local IP address Why? To communicate w Devices w/in LAN network. Two ways of assigning Automatic IP -DYNAMIC (using DHCP server) -APIPA (when DHCP is down) APIPA So if you ever have 169.254.x.x IP address and you can't connect to Internet. It's cuz APIPA can't get past Router to Internet. -APIPA IP for LAN network only. - Can only talk among Switches Zero Configuration (Zeroconf) -Updated APIPA -Gives you same features of APIPA + new Ones.

Automatic IP assigning can be done in Different ways. Most popular = DHCP method. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol history -DHCP is based of an Older protocol called "BootStrap protocol", aka BOOTP -BOOTP had a Static DATABASE of IP and MAC addresses So Every time you see This MAC address, Assign this IP ad. That wasn't as dynamic so DHCP replaced BOOTP. function -DHCP service assigns an IP from an assignable POOL of addresses (scope) Eg: I can ask DHCP Server to hand IP Ranges from 192.168.1.100 to 1.200 (Total 100 IP address) And Every time someone connects, it can borrow from this Range of IP address. tip- to count, imagine no decimals 1200-1100 = 100 software -IP Management =manages all the IP being assigned to users. Benefit -Logs data -If Problem, Data Log points which IP is giving trouble

t

LEASE TIME -Each IP is Leased from the POOL to users. -When Lease Expires, POOL takes it back Won't cause problem to your Computer. Why? If PC is ONLINE > Lease Time PC can RENEW the IP when it reaches the End time. Eg: Like Library Book renewal

t

ON EXAM Components of IP Address (Static/Dynamic IP) Four of them -IP address (user device) -Subnet Mask -Default Gateway (Router IP) -DNS Server/WINS (Server IP) DNS Server (to go outside Network to Internet) or WINS Server (to stay inside the Network) DNS = converts Domain Name to IP address Eg: Google is 8.8.8.8 WINS = converts NETBIOS Name (PC Name) to IP address Eg: Desktop-PC to Local IP address Why? To communicate w Devices w/in LAN network. ON EXAM

t

ON EXAM Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) gives -IP address (user device) -Subnet Mask -Default Gateway (Router IP) -Server Address DNS Server (to go outside Network to Internet) or WINS Server (to stay inside the Network) -other variables for VOIP LEASE TIME -Each IP is Leased from the POOL to users. -When Lease Expires, POOL takes it back Won't cause problem to your Computer. Why? If PC is ONLINE > Lease Time PC can RENEW the IP when it reaches the End time. Eg: Like Library Book renewal

t

Static IP = Manual IP assigning Dynamic IP (DHCP) = Automatic IP assigning NOTE- Dynamic IP is not the only way to Auto assign IP. APIPA = Also Automatic IP assigning -When DHCP cannot Find an IP to give.
