APIs

Application Programming Interface, how you define libraries and call them APIs provision AWS services.

AWS Outposts

Mini region in data centre owned and operated by AWS. Unusual, allows you to extend AWS infrastructure and services to on premises delivery centre.

What are the three ways for you to interact with AWS Services

1. AWS Mgmt Console 2. AWS Command Line Interface (CLI) 3. AWS Software Development Kits (SDKs) - Create requests to send to APIS to manage AWS resources.

What are the x4 factors that dictate what region?

1. Compliance 2. Proximity to customer 3. Available features / services 4. Pricing - some regions more $ (eg. Brazil)

What are the two factors that dictate the treatment of data within regions?

1. Security - government guidance compliance 2. Sovereignity - regional data sovereignty, data is subject to local laws

AWS Management Console

Browser based manage resources visually good for beginners but poor for production environments.

Amazon Cloud Front

Cloudfront retrieves data from cache in Edge Location and delivers to customers across the world w low latency

Edge Locations

Content to customers all over the world Content is pushed from REGIONS to EDGE LOCATIONS to accelerate comms and content delivery.

Regions

Geographically isolated areas where you can access services to run your enterprises. Data centres are built in groups called regions. - each region is connected via high speed fibre network. - each region is isolated (no data moved between regions)

How do you ensure fault tolerance with AZs.

Have multiple EC2 instances across multiple AZs (a disaster would only affect some instances)

SDKs

Interact w. AWS resources though programming language good for developers without using low level APIs

Availability Zones

Regions contains AZs Azs allow you to run across physically separated buildings while keeping applications logically unified. A group of data centres = a AZ

AWS Beanstalk

Repeatable and automated deployments Helps you provision EC2 environments You provide code and configuration setting - beanstalk then BUILDS the environment for you. Save settings so you can deploy easily again.

CLI

Scripts and programmes API calls. Automation - less human error Can use commands to launch an EC2 Instance and connect to autoscaling group.

Content Delivery Network (CDN)

a system of hardware and software that stores user data in many different geographical locations and makes those data available on demand (Amazon Cloud Front, Amazon Route 53)

Amazon Route 53

highly available and scalable DNS (Domain Name System) web service Queries for your domain are automatically routed to closest DNS server (around world)

Cloud Formation

infrastructure as code tool - can build environment by writing lines of code versus management console to individually provision resources. declarative: you define what you want to build, without specifying how. - You DONT have to perform manual functions or write custom scripts.
