World Wide Web

A system of Internet servers that support specially formatted documents. The documents are formatted in a markup language called HTML (HyperText Markup Language) that supports links to other documents, as well as graphics, audio, and video files. This means you can jump from one document to another simply by clicking on hot spots. Not all Internet servers are part of the World Wide Web.

Abbreviation of Uniform Resource Locator, the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web.

IP address

An identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 1.160.10.240 could be an IP address.

Firefox is a browser from Mozilla. It was released in 2004 and has grown to be one of the most popular browser on the Internet.

Netscape was the first commercial Internet browser. Netscape was introduced in 1994, but gradually lost its popularity to Internet Explorer. The development of Netscape officially ended in February 2008.

Opera

Opera is another Internet browser. Opera is known to be fast and small, standards-compliant, and available for many operating systems. Opera is the preferred browser for a number of small devices like mobile phones and hand-held computers.

The Mozilla Project has grown from the ashes of Netscape. Browsers based on Mozilla code is the largest browser family on the Internet today.
