A region defined bu a common characterisitc, such as production of a product.
Perceptual Region
A region defined by popular feelings and images rather than by objective data.
Location
A specific place on Earth.
Two ways every place on Earth can be located?
By describing its absolute location or its relative location.
What do geographers use?
Direct observation, mapping, interviewing, statistics, technology.
Three types of regions identified by geographers?
Formal, functional and perceptual regions.
Movement
Ongoing movement of people, goods, and ideas.
Grid System
Pattern formed as the lines of lattitude and longitude cross one another.
Difference between human and physical geography?
Physical geography is the study of the Earth's physical features. Human geography focuses on human activities in relation to the physical world.
Region
Place united by specific characteristics.
Human Geography
Study of human activities and their relationship to the environment
Direct Observation
Going to a geographic location to see what it is like.
Hemisphere
Half of a sphere or globe, as in the Earths Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Relative Location
Location in relation to other places.

Mapmaking, that began to develop the Age of Exploration
Ecosystem
The complex community of interdependent living things in a given environment.
Absolute Location
The exact position of a place on the Earths surface.
Physical Geography
The study of Earth's physical features.
Human Environment Interaction
The study of human activities and their relationship to the cultural and physical environments.
Why do geographers study human systems and human-environment relationships?
To understand how the how the earth affects & is affected by human activity so that informed decisions can be made.
Geographic Information System
Used to study the environment, weather, and human settlement patterns.
