Bartolomeu Dias

Bartolomeu Dias, a nobleman from the royal household, was a Portuguese explorer. He explored the south of Africa in 1488 and he was the first one to do so.

Treaty of Tordesillas, (June 7, 1494), agreement between Spain and Portugal was aimed at settling conflicts over lands newly discovered or explored by Christopher Columbus and other late 15th-century voyagers.
