Nutrients Density
Nutrient density is the exact principle we used when we rated all of 127 foods found on the World's Healthiest Foods website. The World's Healthiest Foods give you the biggest bang for your buck. They give you the most nutrients possible for the least amount of calories.
Exchange list for meal planning
Often, the meal plan is a guide which shows the number of food choices to eat at each meal and snack using the diabetic exchange lists. The exchange lists group foods together because they are alike. Foods on each list have about the same amount of carbohydrate, protein, fat and calories.
Daily Values
Percent Daily Value (DV) on the Nutrition Facts label is a guide to the nutrients in one serving of food. For example, if the label lists 15 percent for calcium, it means that one serving provides 15 percent of the calcium you need each day. ... 5 percent or less of a nutrient is low.
portion size
Serving sizes are defined by the USDA Food Guide Pyramid as a standard amount used to help give advice about how much food to eat. It also helps us identify how many calories and nutrients are in a food. A portion is the amount of food that you choose to eat.
UL- Tolerable Upper Intake level
TOLERABLE UPPER INTAKE LEVEL (UL) The highest level of nutrient intake that is likely to pose no risk of adverse health effects for almost all individuals in the general population. As intake increases above the UL, the risk of adverse effects increases.
EAR- Estimated Average Requirement
The Estimated Average Requirement (EAR) is the intake level for a nutrient at which the needs of 50 percent of the population will be met. Because the needs of the other half of the population will not be met by this amount, the EAR is increased by about 20 percent to arrive at the RDA.
