During the Calvin cycle, CO2 is taken up and then reduced to a carbohydrate that can later be converted to glucose.
What happens to water during light reactions? What happens to the released oxygen?
PS II would disintegrate without replacement electrons and these ae removed from water, which splits, releasing oxygen to the atmosphere. The water is oxidized and the oxygen is released in PS.
What is the function of the photosynthetic pigments in photosynthesis?
Pigment molecules absorb wavelengths of light. They reflect or transmit the other wavelengths

The light reaction takes place in the thylakoid discs. They utilize in photosystem I, II
When light is available and a plant is added, the solution returns to its original red color? why does this occur?
The plant uses the CO2 for photosynthesis, causing the reaction to move to the left.
How are plant pigments involved in photosynthesis?
They absorb solar energy
How does it benefit a plant to have a variety of photosynthetic pigments?
They interact with light to absorb only certain wavelengths, pigments are useful to plants and other autotrophs which make their own food using photosynthesis.
Photosynthetic organisms including plants, algae, and cyanobacteria is called what?
autotrophs
Why is it beneficial to have several different plant pigments involved in photosynthesis?
because different pigments absorb different amount of energy.
Does green light minimally promotes photosynthesis?
blue, red, violet are better than other lights. green light is transmitted and reflected by chlorophyll(green light does not reflect). Green plants do not use the green wavelengths.

plants are green because their cells contain chloroplasts which have the pigment chlorophyll which absorbs blue and red light, so the sunlight spectrum is being reflected, causing the plant to look green.
