The requirements of the physician-patient privilege are to have your doctor have your medical information discrete from anyone that you don't want to know. Some exceptions include, but are not limited to, lawsuits, abortion, health care workers, etc. If one is trying to sue someone for an injury and they have to confirm that injury, medical papers will need to be exposed. In some states, minors need to notify their parents about their abortion decision and sometimes get their approval. If one is moved to another hospital, the previous hospital has to notify the current hospital about one's condition in order for the patient to receive the proper care.
