Compromise - Boundary at the 49th parallel (further south) and it's still the same today.

Phrase created by a journalist - John L. O'Sullivan a belief that the US was destined to expand all the way to the Pacific Ocean. to express their belief that the United States' destiny was to expand to the Pacific Ocean and into Mexican territory.

Warfare - Black Hawk War (August 1832) - In the Illinois a Wisconsin Territories - US troops slaughtered 200 Native Americans. Treaties - Treaty of Fort Laramie - (1851) If they do not attack settlers and allow the building of roads and forts Indians may live in peace in the Central Plains and Rocky Mountains . Most treaties were broken by the US government. Sometimes all were friends - trading partners and guides in the middle ground.
