modified side lying position

A pillow is placed along a persons back and person is tilted slightly backward to lean on the pillow. Relieves pressure on the hip.

Sims

An exaggerated side lying position that is used for procedures such as taking rectal temperature or giving an enema.

Supine ( dorsal recumbent)

Flat on Back. The bed is flat, the person is on her back, with her head supported by a pillow. A small pillow or rolled towel is used to support the small of the back. The person's arms are extended at her sides, with her palms down.

Trendelenburgs position

Head of bed is lowered and foot of bed is raised

Semi Fowlers position

Head of bed is raised 30 degrees. Or some agencies head of bed raised 30 degrees and knee portion raised 15 degrees; comfortable to prevent sliding in bed

Reverse trendelenburgs position

Head of bed raised and foot of bed lowered

High Fowlers position

Semi sitting position. Head of bed raised 60 to 90 degrees

Fowlers position

Semi sitting position. Head of bed raised between 45 and 60 degrees

Lateral(side laying)

The person is lying on her side with her head supported by a pillow.

prone

The person lies on his stomach with his head turned toward the side.

Flat

Usual sleeping position; used after spinal cord injury or surgery and cervical traction
