Find the height of the flagpole when the base is 15 meters, the height of a man is 1.5 meters, and the direction of the shadow is out 3 meters. 5/15: I got this one.4/6 4/6 OR A man that is 6ft tall has a shadow that is 8ft long. His shadow and a nearby tree's shadow (80ft) meet at the same point. How tall is the tree? 4/2, 4/5

The shadow creates two similar triangles. If there are similar triangles we also know that they are proportional to each other. This equation requires knowledge of proportional relationships and the use of cross multiplication. First I pulled the triangles apart creating two separate triangles. The base of the bigger triangle is 15 ft. and the height is still unknown. Now for the second triangle its base is 3 ft. and the height is 1.5 ft. Now to set up my proportion which is x/15=1.5/3. At this point I then cross multiply giving me 3x=22.5 at which point I divide both sides by 3 leaving me with x = 7.5 as the height of the flagpole. A/B=C/D and cross multiply AxD=BxC and solve for x.

. Probability of two dice with 6 sides: What will be the probability of the absolute difference if dice 1 and dice 2 is 3? What is the probability if dice 1 has a greater number than die 2? What is the probability of the sum of die 1 and die 2 with even numbers?

Note:the second question sounded like: the player would get a second roll if one dice is greater than another. What is the probability that a player gets a second roll; and What is the probability that after a player gets a second roll his first roll and the second roll both have a sum which is an even number. When working with probability questions, the first step is to determine the total possible outcomes. A chart can be a great visual strategy to assure thoroughness. Once the probability chart is ready, we find that there are a total of 36 possible outcomes when rolling two dice. Next, we determine the probability of the following instances: a) P = | Dice 1 - Dice 2 | = 3 6/36 = There is a 16% chance that the absolute difference of Dice 1 and Dice 2 will be 3. b) P = Dice 1 > Dice 2 and P = Second Roll if Dice 1 > Dice 2 15/36 = There is a 41% chance that Dice 1 will be larger than Dice 2. 15/36 = ½ * ½ = ¼ = There is also a 25% chance that you'll get a second roll because Dice 1 will be larger than Dice 2. c) P = Dice 1 + Dice 2 = even # 18/36 = There is a 50% chance that the sum of Dice 1 and Dice 2 will be an even number. Converting these probabilities to percentages make

WWhy do they get pushed back by 50 minutes on a daily basis? Give an example of a geographical factor that would cause a higher tide on a coastal location that causes ocean tides?

The big three factors that create the tides are; the moon, the sun and the earth. The gravitational pull of all three bodies interacting creates the tides. The biggest factor is the moon. It exerts about 2.2 times the power on the tides than the sun does. With each passing day the tides occur about an hour later than the previous day because the moon rises about an hour later each day, (actually, 54 minutes later). Since the moon's gravitational pull raises the tides these two delays are connected. When the sun and the moon are in alignment, the sun enhances the moon's gravitational pull creating higher tides than normal called spring tides. This happens on a full moon or a new moon. Geographical factors include continental land masses that disrupt the normal, semidiurnal wave pattern (two high and low tides per day). The example I gave was the Gulf of Mexico because it's separated from the open ocean on the west by Central/South America, in the center by Cuba, and in the East by the Floridian peninsula. This causes the coastal regions of states like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the west coast of Florida to have a diurnal wave pattern (only one high and low tide per day).

CR 3 A dripping faucet in a tank/bin: You have a rectangular prism. The dimensions are 12" (L) x 16" (W) x 8" (H). After 8 hours it fills to 6 cubic inches. What formula would you use and how long would it take to fill it up completely?

The formula for this problem is cubic inches/hours = volume = (L)(W)(H). The first step is to calculate the volume of what is already filled over the amount of time it took to fill it. 12 x 16 x 6in3/8hours = 1152 in3/8hours = 144 in3 per hour. The second step is to calculate the total volume of the tank. 12 x 16 x 8 = 1536 in3 Finally, we divide the total cubic inches of the tank over the cubic inches per hour. 1536in3/144in3 per hour = 10.67. .67 of an hour is about 40 minutes which leads to a total of approximately 10 hours and 40 minutes to fill the tank completely. Question: In Eddie's video the second portion of this question was stated as "How long will it take to fill the container the rest of the way?" Here are the steps I took: please tell me what you think? Find the volume of the filled portion on the container. v=(l)(w)(h) , v=(12)(16)(6" cubed). Volume is 1,152 cubic inches. Then create a ratio of 1,152 cubic inches over the time it took to fill the container so far. The ratio is 1152/8hrs= 144cubic inches per hour to fill the tank so far. To find out how long it will take to fill the rest of the container we need to find the volume of the empty part of the container: v=(12)(16)(2), v= 384cubic inches Create a proportional ratio to find the missing time value=x. 144 cubic inches/1=384 cubic inches/ x; cross multiply= 144x=384; solve for x= 2.7 hours to fill the rest of the container.

CR 2 What scientific procedures can students take to find the volume, density and mass of their mineral samples? What tools can they use to measure all those? Finally, design an experiment to find the information to the answer

The tools necessary to measure the mass, volume and density of their mineral samples include a scale and a graduated cylinder. To find the volume and mass of their mineral samples the students need to use the water displacement method. By finding the mass then dividing that by the volume of water displaced, you can calculate the density of minerals and other irregularly shaped objects. The formula used to find the density is D = m ÷ v. For this experiment I will need: a graduated cylinder, water, minerals, paper, and a pencil. To set up this water displacement activity, fill the graduated cylinder with water to the desired mL. Write on a piece of paper the milliliters of water you filled the graduated cylinder to. Now take your first mineral and gently set it in the graduated cylinder. On a paper, mark what the water level went up to once the mineral was inserted into the graduated cylinder. My water displacement experiment will involve coins. Organize the coins by size and line them up in the proper sequence. Make a chart on paper of the different sizes of coins you'll be using for this water displacement experiment. Start by gently dropping dimes into the cup of water from a very low height one at a time. As each coin gets added to the water, the water will naturally rise as space inside the cup is becoming occupied by the coins. For example, if the initial water level is 60ml or 60cm3, when the coins are added the final water level is 72ml or 72cm3. The next step is to subtract the initial water level number of 60ml from the final water level of 72ml you now have a volume of 12cm3. Another possible response (doesn't include experiment): To identify the mass of each object, students should use an accurate scale, being careful to calibrate the scale so it weighs only the object and not its container. To identify the volume, they might measure out a certain volume of water in a graduated cylinder and note the volume, place the object into the water so it is completely covered, and then measure how much water is displaced by the object. To calculate the density, the students would divide the mass by the object's volume because D=M/V.

Thermal Conductivity NOTE: This is the same question as the drawing at the end of the science doc. This doc says thermal, but a science teacher said it was densities, which would make sense with how the question is worded. Boiling points did not make sense.

Building town hall: The cost of labor is $80 per sq. ft. and the materials or land cost $60,000. How many sq. ft. can the new townhall be if the budget is $260,000? ***WILL ASK YOU TO GRAPH YOUR POINTS. This is a three-part question. The first part is to find the equation that you would use for the $80 and the 60,000. Then make a graph with all the points and AXIS' says labeled. After this use the $260,000 and set it equal to the 80X+60000 equation.*** 03/19, 3/26, 4/1

This being a linear situation, it can be modeled with the linear equation y=mx+b to set up the problem. When setting up I know that the $80 is my rate because it will change depending on the number of square feet. My y-intercept is 60,000 because it is my starting point. To figure the square footage based on the numbers provided I've set up my equation as 260,000=80x+60,000. Once the equation has been set up, I subtracted 60,000 from both sides. Now I'm left with 200,000=80x. Finally I divide both sides by 80 leaving me with x=2500sq ft. And so, to build a house (or town hall) on a $60,000 lot at $80 per square foot my new town hall would be 2,500 sq. ft. This graph could be a little more evenly divided on the x and y axis, but here's a sketch:

A student put a rose under blue light and the rose appears black. Student places rose under red light and it appeared red. Explain this student's conclusion using the laws of physics and color.

You think the red rose is red because when white light falls over the rose it absorbs all other colors other than red and emits red light. When blue light falls over the rose it absorbs the blue light, but there is nothing to emit so it appears black. When white light shines on a red object, all of the colors that form the white light are absorbed except red, which is reflected. This is why the object appears red. A filter is a transparent material that absorbs some colors and allows others to pass through. Light is the only source of color. Color pigments (paints, dyes, or inks) show color by absorbing certain parts of the light spectrum and reflecting the parts that remain. Color filters work the same way, absorbing certain wavelengths of color and transmitting the other wavelengths. When blue light is allowed through a blue filter onto a blue object, the object will still reflect blue and therefore appear blue. But when blue light from a blue filter hits a red object, the blue will be absorbed and no light will be reflected, giving the object an appearance of being black. Another possible response: -Evaluate the student's validity This student's conclusion may not be valid because the student never looked at the rose under white light. The student's explanation also showed misconceptions about the physics of color. -Evaluate the student's scientific procedure Since the student only used two colors of light, the student cannot accurately conclude the color of the rose. Most objects reflect a spectrum of colors. When white light shines upon them, they appear to be the color that is reflected the most by the object. The student should look at the rose under white light to determine its color. -List another reason using physics to determine why the rose changes color under certain lights: The colors we see are the color(s) reflected by an object, while we don't see the colors absorbed by an object. If all the colors that the object reflects are removed from the light, the object will appear black. When the blue light was absorbed by the rose, it appeared black, because the rose was absorbing all the light. When the red light was shone on the rose, the rose reflected the red light.

Paramecium—Discuss the increase and decrease of the paramecia. What types of methods could be done to provide evidence of the increase or decrease after five days? What would happen if a predator were added to the paramecia? What effects would it have on the paramecia and the chart?

the first part asked for conditions in which the following trends can happen (not exact wording but similar). The paramecia multiplied and became more and more (graph goes up). Soon the paramecia didn't have enough resources or food to survive so they started to die out (graph goes down). Types of methods: count the number of paramecium to see if they multiply. Or look at the density of the paramecium through a microscope to see if it gets bigger. The patterns of population are dependent on factors of carrying capacity, limited factors of resources for an organism to live, and patterns of population growth. These patterns include changes in food, water, disease, temperature, crowding/competition and predator-prey relationships. By adding a predator it would cause the chart to decrease because it would eat the paramecium.

You'll see a graph and the question will ask "which point touched the x-axis
