the unknown word is compared to another word -Ex Barney is agreeable and happy like---his parents. (positive)

the unknown word is described by the previous words -Ex I was hot,tired, and thirsty; I was----(dehydrated) with multiple meaning of a word : -look for contextual clues and evaluate the substituted words -which one makes the most sense
