Corporation considers preferred stock more like debt than ownership. advantage- carries less risk of loss disadvantage- usually do not have the right to vote on matters of importance to the business

What is the SEC and why was it instituted?

Securities and Exchange Commission Founded by government to ensure citizens are correctly informed of the financial situations of corporations. Intent was to: 1. require companies to fully disclose their financial status 2. regulate the activities of stock brokers in the best interest of the investors.

Shares, or a portion of a corporation.

Floor traders

Stock traders who are physically present in the trading floor to execute requested trades.

Stockbrokers fee.

The stock market doesn't carry the risk of a gambling game. When you buy stock you are purchasing partial ownership in a corporation. initial public offering (IPO)

it is less than the company's total stock because it allows them to raise the necessary capital but still retain majority ownership of their corporation. IPO is the initial sale of a company's stock through an investment bank

it reinforces the proceeds as a reflection of what consumers will pay for a product. if a buyer sees a company doing well demand will grow (vice versa)
