Height and Width Requirements

• Exit access must at least 28in wide at all points • Must meet minimum requirement

Exit Route Capacity must .....

• Must be adequate • Must support the maximum permitted occupant load for each floor served • Capacity may not decrease in direction of travel to exit discharge

Documenting an Emergency Action Plan rules

• Must be in writing • Kept in workplace • Available for employee review

Employee Alarm System must

• Must be operable • Must have a distinctive signal to warn employees fire or other emergencies unless employees can see or smell a fire or other hazards in time to provide adequate warning to them

Outdoor Exit Routes must

• Must meet minimum height and width requirements for indoor exit routes • Guardrails required to protect unenclosed sides if a fall hazard exist • Must be covered if snow or ice is likely to accumulate • Must be straight, smooth, solid, and level • No dead-end longer than 20 feet

More than two exits may be required depending on the

- Number of employees - Size of the facility - Occupancy type - Arrangement of the workplace

Exit access must

- Width must be able to support maximum occupant load - Width of exit and exit discharge must be at least equal to the width of the exit access - Objects that project into exit route must not reduce width of exit route to less than minimum width requirement

Single exit permitted where

the number of employees, building size, and occupancy is such that all employees can evacuate safely
