Summary of Chike's School Days

"In the ways of the white man"give a deep insight in to the life of Chike. Though He was born into a bicultural family, surrounded by both the traditionalOsuculture and British Christianity, English had a dominance in Chike'slife that influenced his personal life and passions. English had a great influence and power in Chike's life. At one instance, young Chike refused to eat food offered by his neighbor due to the fact of it being "heathen food". The irony of this occurance is that his neighbor was simply an Ibo, who followed traditional Osu customs. This is one occurance that suggests that Chike favored British Christianity and dominance over tradition. Another occurance that suggests his favor of typical white English and christianity is the way Chike adopts and develops a love for words, particularly English words, while in school.
