Data marker
A chart symbol (such as a bar, line, dot, slice, and so forth) that represents a single data point or value from the corresponding worksheet cell.
Formula AutoComplete
A feature that speeds up the manual entry of functions.
Data series
A group of related information in a column or row of a worksheet that is plotted on a chart.
Axis
A horizontal or vertical line that establishes the relationship between data in a chart.
Legend
A list that identifies patterns, symbols, or colors used in a chart.
Chart sheet
A separate sheet in a workbook that stores a chart.
What-if analysis
Process of changing values in cells to see how those changes affect the outcome of formulas in the worksheet
Format as you type
The Excel feature by which a cell takes on the formatting of the number typed into the cell
Line Chart
a chart that uses points connected by a line to illustrate values in a worksheet
Pie chart
a circular chart divided into triangular areas proportional to the percentages of the whole
Chart Elements box
The box in the Chart Tools tabs from which you can select a chart element so that you can format it.
Chart area
The entire chart and all other chart elements
WordArt
a drawing object that contains text formatted with special shapes, patterns, and orientations
Percent for new value=base percent + percent of increase
The formula for calculating a percentage by which a value increases by adding the base percentage—usually 100%—to the percent increase.
Value after increase = base x percent for new value
The formula for calculating the value after an increase by multiplying the original value—the base—by the percent for new value (see the Percent for new value formula).

a sum of money set aside for a specific purpose
Plot area
The graphical representation of all of the data series
Rate = amount of increase/base
The mathematical formula to calculate a rate of increase.
Order of operations
The order in which Excel performs the calculations specified in a formula.
Percentage rate of increase
The percent by which one number increases over another number.
Major unit
The value in a chart's value axis that determines the spacing between tick marks and between the gridlines in the plot area.
Goal Seek
an Excel analysis tool that automates the trial and error process by specifying a value for a calculated item and then returning the input value needed to reach that goal
Data point
an item of factual information derived from measurement or research
Relative cell reference
cell reference that adjusts to a new location when copied or moved
Category Axis
horizontal axis of a chart, usually containing the names of data groups; in a 2-dimensional chart, also known as the x-axis
Value axis
horizontal or vertical grouping of values from the worksheet
Explode
increase rapidly and in an uncontrolled manner
Tick marks
lines of measurement along the value and category axes.

money set aside for the normal operating activities of a city
x-axis

Base

Bevel
Bevel is a function in graphic design software that, when applied to an image, gives the image the appearance of being raised out of the surface. A common example is buttons on websites. The appearance of the bevel is created by the application of lighter and darker colors to the image.
Absolute cell reference
Cell reference that does not adjust to the new cell location when copied or moved
Text box
Container for text that can be placed and formatted randomly
