Wild Card Filter

- For a very large set of data, you might want a filter that shows the top or bottom items, like the Top 10 items sold. - you can define a limit (top 10) that is relative to the other members in the field (products)

There is a difference between remove filter and hide card options

- The Remove Filter option removes the filter from the Filters shelf. Hide Card/Filter only removes the filter card from the view.

filter information

- To create filter on a field, the field does not have to be in the view. You can create a filter on any field in the Data pane. - You can create a quick filter by right-clicking the field in the Data Pane and selecting Show Filter. The field will automatically appear in the Filter shelve - By default, a filter only applies to the worksheet that it is created in. But you can change that by right-clicking the filter in the Filters shelf, and selecting Apply to Worksheets. -Use all allows you to specify that all members are used as an input to the filter. This means that if the list of members change, the list will update to reflect the changes. Select from list limits the filter to the members you select initially.

Condition Filter

- Use a Condition filter to specify conditions for your filters. For example, you can create a filter on Sub-Category that meets the condition of Sales greater than 250,000 (as shown below).

General Filter

- Use the General tab to select the values you want to include or exclude. You can select All or None, or even choose to exclude some values. -

Customize the appearance and interaction of a dimension filter

- access these options by displaying the drop-down menu.

Discrete date part filter

- can use the filter to see the status for individual quarters. - uses a discrete date part filter - filter is called a date part filter because you are defining discrete values instead of a range.

relative dates

- define a range of dates that updates based on the date and time you open the view. - foe example: create dynamic filters to only show the current week, the year to date, or the past 10 days.

Filter by including or excluding data points

- drag to select the marks in the view. On the tooltip that appears, select Keep Only to include the selected marks in the view. - When you use the Keep Only and Exclude options, dimensions are automatically added to the Filters shelf.

- restricts categorical data in your view - members present in a dimension can be included or excluded using this filter. - multiple filters are applied simultaniusly with and logic

Hide and remove filters

- right click drop down menu or drag filter away from shelf

Continuous date value filter

- uses a continuous date value - Continuous date filters allow you to filter data on a range of dates

Create a measure filter using the Filters shelf

1.) drag a measure to the Filters shelf, which opens the Filters Field dialog box. Here you can select how you want to aggregate the field, and then click Next. 2.) After you select an aggregation for your measure filter, you are prompted to select a filter type. The filter type you select depends on how you want your users to interact with your view.

Filter card options

:edit filer: this option opens the main filter dialogue box so you can further refine the filter by adding conditions and limits. Remove filter: Removes the filter from the Filters shelf and removes the filter card from the view. Apply to Worksheets: Allows you to specify whether the filter should apply to only the current worksheet or be shared across multiple worksheets. Format Filter and Set Control: Customize the font and colors of all your filter cards in the view. Customize: Customize option in Tableau Desktop allows you to modify the appearance of your filter card further, such as add or remove the All value, and add or remove the search button. Only Relevant Values: Specifies which values to show in the filter. When you select this option other filters are considered and only values that pass these filters are shown. All Values in Database: When you select this option all values in the database are shown regardless of the other filters on the view. Include Values: When this option is selected, the selections in the filter card are included in the view. Exclude Values: When this option is selected, the selections in the filter card are excluded from the view Hide Card: Hides the filter card but does not remove the filter from the Filters shelf.

starting date

Select a start date to define a fixed start date to filter on

ending date

Select an end date to define a fixed end date to filter on.

special

Select the Special option to filter on Null values. Include only null values, non-null values, or all values.

Measures

contain quantitative data, so filtering this type of field generally involves selecting a range of values that you want to include and showing only the values that meet your filter criteria.

range of dates

define a fixed range of dates to filter.

Filter on sub-category

view uses the Sub-Category dimension filter to allow users to show sales data for specific items.
