Do you have any questions?

A few, actually. What does a typical day look like for a person in this position? What are your policies on dyed hair and piercings? Why do you enjoy working here? What qualities do your most successful employees have? I've really enjoyed learning more about this job opportunity, what is the next step in the hiring process?

Why should we hire you?

Based on what you've said and from the research I've done, your company is looking for someone who takes pleasure in assisting others and enjoys engaging with customers on the regular. I believe my experience aligns and makes me a great fit. I'm socially adept and enjoy putting my social and communication skills to use, whether it be verbal, written, and so on. I'm also a creative thinker and enjoy participating in problem resolution and enjoy solving complications in new, innovative ways that others might not have concluded yet. I'm also a very quick learner and have a keen sense of adaptability, even in times of havoc. I'd love to bring my skill set to your company and workplace.

How do you define excellent customer service?

Excellent customer service means going beyond meeting your customer's basic needs. It involves more than providing support in a timely manner, it means doing everything in your power so that customers are not merely satisfied, but that they are genuinely happy with your products and services. Communication is key, and you can provide said communication by being positively helpful, informative, by making a good impression, and following up with your customer to ensure they are satisfied and have everything they need.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

From the moment I read the job description for this position I was very excited about your company's role in the community, and for this reason, am thrilled at the possibility of working with you for a long time. I'm very passionate about outreach and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to be heavily involved in this area. While my main focus moving forward will be on the position we are discussing today, I'm hopeful that I'll be able to grow within this position to take on more and be a part of new and exciting projects in the community.

Tell me about yourself.

Give three specific examples of your personality traits and accomplishments. My name is Ivey Patrick, I was born and raised in Virginia but I recently moved to Kingsport, TN this October. I've always enjoyed helping others, dating back to elementary years when I would help teachers organize and sometimes even grade papers, as well as helping my parents around the house with anything they needed. It's always been a strong passion of mine and I even see it being a huge part of my future, as I've even considered going into the medical field someday to help give back to others. I'm a junior in high school and I'm currently homeschooled. I make straight A's and when I was attending public school, I was in our Beta Club. My experience working with Beta has given me many opportunities for personal growth, as I helped organize events and served others at said events. The most rewarding part of it, I'd say, is giving back to my community and making others happy in anyway I can. Moving forward I would love to work for a company such as yours that's so prided on giving back to its community and providing others with excellent service and fresh produce.

Tell us about your previous work experience?

I haven't had a formal job, but I have experience volunteering at our local library and Beta Club at my previous school. At the library, I helped stock shelves and read to children during group readings, as well as helping the parents and children pick out which books they might like. I organized many books, CDs, DVDs, etc, etc. With Beta, I helped organize countless charity events, most of which were to raise money to help support our community. I helped organize the actives and participated by playing games and serving food to the attendees.

Why do you want to work for Food City?

I would be proud to work for a company that gives back to its community, as that's something I very much so enjoy. I also see many opportunities for personal growth as well as many new learning opportunities. I feel I would be a good fit at this company, as I love engaging with other people and providing them with assistance.

What are your salary expectations?

I'm open to discussing what you believe is a fair salary for this position — I'm flexible. What's the average range for this position?

What is your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment is maintaining completely straight A's and a 4.0 GPA throughout all my years of school. I've struggled with anxiety and depression and it's posed a few challenges here and there in terms of grades, but I've always pushed through and prioritized my grades and pursuing a career in the future. This has taught me that persistence, optimism and believing in yourself can get you to where you need to be. I'm very proud of this accomplishment and I feel what I've learned is going to give me a big advantage in my career now.

What can you tell us about Food City?

The first Food City was actually opened in 1918 in Greenville, Tn, but the official opening took place in 1955 by a man named Jack Smith — as well as his father and uncle — in Grundy, Va. They're a family owned company that enjoys giving back to the local community, as well as partnering with local farmers to provide fresh produce for it's shoppers.

What is your greatest weakness?

Very strong attention to detail, hyperfocusing, almost. Sometimes this can turn into a tendency to perfectionism. In the past, I found this leading me to stress over small details, such as fiddling with a layout over and over to ensure it's perfect, or checking a paper three or four times for any grammar mistakes to ensure its concise and clear. I've since learned to successfully budget my time and attention and focus on tasks that actually benefit from this level of attentiveness and precision.

Are you a team player?

Yes, I'm very much a team player. In fact, I've had opportunities in school and athletics to develop my skills as a team player.
