Top body molding

Aka: body ledge. Molding along the uppermost edge of the body panels.

Header flange

Aka: bridge flange/cap filler flange. The turned under or horizontal portion of the header of the casket cap

Header

Aka: bridge/cap filler. Part of the cap that is constructed into caskets that display a cut top. Provides strength and rigidity at the point of a transverse cut. Occur in pairs: foot end of head cap and head end of foot cap.

Pie

Aka: fishtail. Wedge shaped portion of lid at each end of the crown. Is part of the crown.

Cap

Aka: lid. The top most portion of the casket shell.

Rim flange

Aka: ogee flange. The turned under edge, or horizontal portion, or the casket rim that comes into contact with the gasket (if one is used) or the body ledge flange (top body molding flange)

Ogee

Aka: rim. "S" shaped molding that is a component part of the cap.

Crown

Aka: swell. Upper most part of the casket cap extending from rim to rim; everything above the rim of the cap.

Body ledge flange

Aka: top body molding. Horizontal portion of the top body molding where the casket is placed on gasketed caskets.

Body panels

Compose the end and sides of the body. (Walls)

Gasket channel

Integral part of the foot panel header on gasket caskets. Found on top cut caskets. Functions to hold the transverse gasket to seal the space between the head and foot caps.

Base molding

Molding along the lowermost edge of the body panels

Cap primarily includes:

Body

Portion of the casket shell containing the top molding, body panel, base molding, and casket bottom. Portion of the casket that actually receives and holds the body of the deceased.

Shell

The component parts of the casket, comprised of the cap and body of the casket.
