GEOGRAPHY AND TIMELINE
What is a Compass Rose?
A Compass Rose indicates direction/orientation on a map.
Century
A century is a period of 100 years.
Decade
A decade is a period of ten years. So, the 50's were a decade, the 80's were a decade, etc.

How are BCE years counted?
BCE years are counted down towards zero, so 1200 BCE is earlier than 1100BCE. In the picture you can see how the numbers get smaller the farther we go to the right (closer to zero on the timeline).
On a timeline, B.C.E. stands for what?
Before Common Era. BCE replaced BC (Before Christ).

What are lines of Latitude
Lines of latitude are imaginary lines that circle the globe from east and west, measuring an area's distance north and south of the equator (always comes FIRST when giving directions).
What are lines of longitude
Lines of longitude are imaginary liens that circle the globe from north to south, measuring an area's distance east or west of the prime meridian.
Relative Location
Relative Location describes where an area is in terms of other areas. For example, in this picture I can describe the path to McDonalds from my house by saying, "go right when you see the two large trees, and then when you get to the cemetery, McDonalds will be across the street from it. If you reach the tall building then you have gone too far."
What is a scale
Tells you distance, as it relates to the actual distance on a map. You can measure the distance between two locations on a map using the scale.
Equator
The equator is the line of latitude midway between the North and South poles. It is also known as the line of latitude at zero degrees.
Prime Meridian
The prime meridian is the line of longitude at zero degrees that runs through Greenwich, England.
Absolute Location
an areas point of latitude and longitude. An exact location.
Hemisphere
half the globe; the globe can be divided into Northern and Southern Hemispheres (separated by the equator), or into Eastern and Western Hemispheres (separated by the Prime Meridian)
