undefined term

A basic figure that is not defined in terms of other figures. The undefined terms in geometry are point, line, and plane.

segment

A part of a line that consists of two end points and all points between them.

ray

A part of a line that starts at an endpoint and extends forever in one direction.

endpoint

A point at an end of a segment or the starting point of a ray.

angle bisector

A ray that divides an angle into two congruent angles

coordinate plane

A two-dimensional region determined by a pair of axes and that uses numerical values to represent the location of an object.

line

An undefined term in geometry, a line is a straight path that has no thickness and extends forever.

plane

An undefined term in geometry, it is a flat surface that has no thickness and extends forever.

point

An undefined term in geometry, it names a location and has no size.

linear pair

Two adjacent angles whose noncommon sides are opposite rays

supplementary angles

Two angles whose sum is 180 degrees

angle

a biased way of looking at or presenting something

length

a section of something that is long and narrow

leg

a section or portion of a journey or course

segment bisector

a segment, ray, line, or plane that intersects a segment at its midpoint

rotation

a single complete turn (axial or orbital)

base

a support or foundation

image

a visual representation (of an object or scene or person or abstraction) produced on a surface

coordinate

acoordinates number used to identify the location of a point

congruent angles

angles that have the same measure

postulate

apostulates statement that is accepted as true without proof. aka axiom

adjacent angles

are a pair of angles with a common vertex and a common side, but no common interior points

construction

drawing a figure satisfying certain conditions as part of solving a problem or proving a theorem

straight angle

exactly 180 degrees

right angle

exactly 90 degrees

measure

how much there is of something that you can quantify

between

in between

acute angle

less than 90 degrees

height

natural height of a person or animal in an upright position

hypotenuse

the side of a right triangle opposite the right angle

circumference

the size of something as given by the distance around it

perimeter

the size of something as given by the distance around it

complementary angles

two angles whose sum is a right angle

Opposite rays

two rays that have a common endpoint and form a line

collinear

Points that lie on the same line.

interior of an angle

The set of all points between the sides of an angle.

exterior of an angle

The set of all points outside an angle.

Coplanar

Points that lie in the same plane.

vertical angles

TWO angles whose sides form two pairs of opposite rays

congruent segments

segments that have the same length

transformation

the act of changing in form or shape or appearance

translation

the act of uniform movement

degree

the highest power of a term or variable

reflection

the image of something as reflected by a mirror (or other reflective material)

radius

the length of a line segment between the center and circumference of a circle or sphere

diameter

the length of a straight line passing through the center of a circle and connecting two points on the circumference

preimage

the original figure

vertex

the point of intersection of lines or the point opposite the base of a figure

distance

the property created by the space between two objects or points
