Understand web apps & extensions

Chrome app launch in their own window, not in the browser, so they don't have the onmibox, tabs, etc. Extensions are small, mostly single purpose, apps designed to add features and funtionality to Chrome.

Advantages to signing to Chrome

When signed into Chrome, browsing history, settings and data, apps, etc. are saved to your Google account. Changes are synced.

Set up Chrome sync

When you sign in to Chrome with your Google account, your browsing history, bookmarks, Chrome apps, extensions, and settings are automatically synchronized.

Difference between extensions and apps

A difference between Chrome extensions and web apps is the fact that while extensions are used to enhance the functionality of the Chrome Browser, web apps run within the browser having a different user interface. Unlike web applications, extensions have little or sometimes no UI component.
