An example of a monarchy is Saudi Arabia, Japan, or England. - An aristocracy is a type of government where power is placed in the hands of wealthy and important citizens. Why people began to question the rule of man and divine rights of kings. How is the rule of law different?

They questioned them because if leaders where chosen by God then they should do what is best for the people; the majority of rulers were tyrants. They were not doing what was best for the people, so how could they be chosen by God? This led to a concept known as rule of law. People began to write the laws down so they were be permanent and also to make sure that the monarch or dictator followed the rules as well. It is a system that helps maintain the interests of the citizens first and make sure leaders also follow the same rules as the citizens.

When all citizens in a nation vote and participate in government it is referred to as a direct democracy. However, many nations have large populations and use and indirect form of democracy instead. This is because if all votes for all citizens where counted, it could take months at a time for even simple issues. In an indirect form of democracy citizens elect people who have similar belief and values as they do to vote for them.
