How was a town able to become independent of a feudal lord?

Towns became independent by purchasing a royal charter. A charter granted them the right to govern themselves, make laws, and raise taxes. Towns were governed by a mayor and a town council

Towns were located around castles and monasteries and along trade routes because they were the center of trade.

Guilds paid for fairs and festivals. They took care of members and their families who were sick and unable to work.

It lasted from 1000 to 1450 C.E

How can someone become a member of a guild?

The apprentice has to prove to the guild that they have mastered their trade. So they have to make a "master piece." If the guild approves, the apprentice becomes a master of that trade.

What contributed to the growth of towns in medieval Europe?

The improvements in agriculture created a surplus of crops so not everyone had to grow crops to feed themselves. And the comeback in the trade business.
