What is meek?
*An attitude of mind that does not insist on its own rights and is always ready to waive its privileges in the interest of others. *Doesn't seek prestige, high office, or being first in line.
What does it mean to be poor in spirit?
*Emptied of self. *Considers himself to be insignificant. *Aware of his own weakness and his total need for God's power.
What is hunger and thirst for righteousness?
*Longs for spiritual things far more than material things exhibits this virtue. *Spends most of his time, thoughts, money, and energy in a quest for spiritual growth of service.
What is a peacemaker?
*One who steps in and restores peace where turmoil and strife exist.
What is persecuted and reviled?
*Persecuted not because he is obnoxious but because he is kind, righteous, and loyal to Christ. *Does not fight back or retaliate when he is wronged or mistreated.
What is pure in heart?
*Purity in thought, motive, and action.
What is a mourner?
*Revealed by spiritual compassion for souls and/or sorrow for sin. *A serious attitude about spiritual things, it is the opposite of indifference.
What is merciful?
*Withholding of wrath from those who deserve it. *Being merciful to those who have been unmerciful.
How did Christ exhibit purity in heart?
Christ did only what pleased the Father; no one could convict Him of sin.
How did Christ exhibit peacemaker?
Christ made peace through His blood on the cross, reconciling those who were alienated from God by sin.
How did Christ exhibit persecution and reviled?
Christ suffered persecution as our examples. When He was reviled, He left and the judgment to God.
How did Christ exhibit meekness?
Christ washed the disciples' feet as an example to them of servant hood.
How did Christ exhibit mourner?
Christ wept over Jerusalem and their rejection of Him.
How did Christ exhibit hunger and thirsts for righteousness?
Christ's food was to do God's will and to finish the work that the Father had given Him to do.
What are the B-attitudes?

How did Christ exhibit poor in spirit?
The Son does nothing Himself; He seeks only the will of His Father. He does things in the same manner as His father.
What is the two-fold purpose of each of these statements of blessing?
To show whom we should honor and respect. To define what makes for true happiness.
What is man's concept of happiness?
Wealth-sorrow+gratification of appetite+popular acceptance+kind treatment=success and happiness
How did Christ exhibit mercy?
When the Pharisees brought an adulterous woman to Christ to be stoned, He wrote on the ground, and the Pharisees were convicted and left.
