Intergroup conflict
Why is RGCT a realist theory? Why is RGCT a conflict theory?
Because RGCT says that groups aren't competing for something irrational, they are competing for actual needed resources. It is a conflict theory because it reject the idea that groups share and cooperate. Like earlier group theories thought.
Define intergroup conflict
Intergroup conflict is when disagreement occurs between two or more outgroups Inter group conflict can occur, When two or more groups are seeking the same limited resources or goals. Provideds an explaination for the feelings of prejudice and discrimination that can be felt towards an outgroup when hositlity occurs.
Realistic group conflict theory - cambell., 1979
Realistic group conflict theory is the theory that when groups compete for the same goal or resource hostility will occur. Groups may be in competition for the same perceived or real limited resources, such as, money, political power, military protection, or social status. Feelings of resentment towards a group can occur when there can only be one winner. Positive relationship can be made if subordinate goals are in place. (A goal that that is shared by both parties that allows them to work together.)
