IT 150: Pneumatic Actuators and Control Valves
double acting
two ports, no spring, exerts work in two directions (forward and backward), uses compressed air in both strokes, speed control in both directions
motor
uses air pressure to create a turning force (rotary) called torque at motor shaft
check valve
allows flow in one direction and prevents flow in the other direction
speed control valve
controls the direction of flow and the speed of actuators
cylinders
device used to produce linear motion
directional control
devices which influence the path taken by an air stream. represented by two numbers (# of ports/ # of positions)
ways valves can be actuated/operated
mechanical or manual, pilot, electrical, combo
single acting
one port, has a spring, exerts work in one direction, uses compressed in forward stroke and return is achieved by spring, speed control in one direction
on-off valve
only allows air to move in one direction
pressure regulator
relief and pressure limiters
flow control valve
restricts flow using a needle point stem, controls speed of hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders and motor when connected in parallel with a check valve
categories of cylinders
1.) single acting 2.) double acting
basic assemblies of a cylinder
1.) barrel and head 2.) piston and piston head
