Dissecting needle
A slender, usually sharp-pointed instrument used for puncturing tissues, suturing, or passing a ligature around an artery.
Erlenmeyer flask
a conical, flat-bottomed laboratory flask with a narrow neck.
Hot plate
a flat heated surface (or a set of these), typically portable, used for cooking food or keeping it hot.
Agar
a gelatinous substance obtained from various kinds of red seaweed and used in biological culture media and as a thickener in foods.
Buret
a graduated glass tube with a tap at one end, for delivering known volumes of a liquid, especially in titrations.
Scalpel
a knife with a small, sharp, sometimes detachable blade, as used by a surgeon.
Magnifying glass
a lens that produces an enlarged image, typically set in a frame with a handle and used to examine small or finely detailed things such as fingerprints, stamps, and fine print.
Beaker
a lipped cylindrical glass container for laboratory use.
Forceps
a pair of pincers or tweezers used in surgery or in a laboratory.
Ruler
a person exercising government or dominion.
Stopper (rubber or cork)
a plug for sealing a hole, especially in the neck of a bottle or other container.
Spotplate
a porcelain or glass plate usually with several small depressions for use in spot tests.
Petri dish
a shallow, circular, transparent dish with a flat lid, used for the culture of microorganisms.
Dropper
a short glass tube with a rubber bulb at one end and a tiny hole at the other, for measuring out drops of medicine or other liquids.
Pipette
a slender tube attached to or incorporating a bulb, for transferring or measuring out small quantities of liquid, especially in a laboratory.
Bunsen burner
a small adjustable gas burner used in laboratories.
Evaporating dish
a small ceramic dish in which liquids are heated over a flame so that they evaporate, leaving a solid residue.
Coverslip
a small, thin piece of glass used to cover and protect a specimen on a microscope slide.
Microscope slide
a structure with a smooth sloping surface for children to slide down.
Test tube
a thin glass tube closed at one end, used to hold small amounts of material for laboratory testing or experiments.
Wire gauze
a thin translucent fabric of silk, linen, or cotton.
Funnel
a tube or pipe that is wide at the top and narrow at the bottom, used for guiding liquid or powder into a small opening.
Spatula
an implement with a broad, flat, blunt blade, used for mixing and spreading things, especially in cooking and painting.
Test tube brush
is a brush used for cleaning test tubes and narrow mouth laboratory glassware, such as beakers and flasks.
Watchglass
is a circular concave piece of glass used in chemistry as a surface to evaporate a liquid, to hold solids while being weighed, for heating a small amount of substance and as a cover for a beaker.
Graduated Cylinder
is a common piece of laboratory equipment used to measure the volume of a liquid.
Crucible and cover
is a cup-shaped piece of laboratory equipment used to contain chemical compounds when heated to extremely high temperatures.
Mortar and pestle
is a device used since ancient times to prepare ingredients or substances by crushing and grinding them into a fine paste or powder.
Dissecting probe
is a long, 6" needle inserted into a small, wooden handle.
Pipestem triangle
is a piece of laboratory apparatus that is used to support a crucible being heated by a Bunsen burner or other heat source.
Stirring rod
is a piece of laboratory equipment used to mix chemicals and liquids for laboratory purposes.
Ring stand
is a piece of scientific equipment, to which clamps can be attached to hold test tubes and other equipment such as burettes which are most often used in titration experiments.
Buret clamp
is a scientific equipment which used specifically to hold and secure a burette on a stand, so that a burette is fixed and more convenient for the experiment.
Dissecting kit
is a set of instruments that would be needed to perform a dissection (that is to cut open and display) on an animal or plant.
Inoculating loop
is a simple tool used mainly by microbiologists to retrieve an inoculum from a culture of microorganisms.
Wash bottle
is a squeeze bottle with a nozzle, used to rinse various pieces of laboratory glassware, such as test tubes and round bottom flasks.
Florence flask
is a type of flask used as an item of laboratory glassware.
Triple beam balance
is a typical mechanical balance.
Test tube holder
is an apparatus designed to support and store test tubes during a scientific experiment.
Test tube rack
is an apparatus used in a laboratory to hold and transport test tubes during experiments or while examining cultures.
Iron ring
is an item of laboratory equipment which comprises a conjoined metal ring and radially-extending rod.
Beaker tongs
(glass or plastic) Used to stir, heat (if glass), and measure liquid volume in mL (rough estimate).
Test tube clamp
A cylindrical tube of clear glass, usually open at one end and rounded at the other, used as a container for small amounts of a substance in laboratory tests and experiments.
Scissors
an instrument used for cutting cloth, paper, and other thin material, consisting of two blades laid one on top of the other and fastened in the middle so as to allow them to be opened and closed by a thumb and finger inserted through rings on the end of their handles.
Tongs
an instrument with two movable arms that are joined at one end, used for picking up and holding things.
Microscope
an optical instrument used for viewing very small objects, such as mineral samples or animal or plant cells, typically magnified several hundred times.
Safety glasses
glass that has been toughened or laminated so that it is less likely to splinter when broken.
