Finding the Prime Factorization of a Number

The prime factorization of a number is the number written as the product of its prime factors. For example, the prime factors of 12 are 3, 2, and 2. The prime factorization of 12 is 2 · 3 · 2 or 2² · 3

Finding Factors of a Number

Whole numbers that are multiplied to find a product are called factors of that product. A number is divisible by its factors. For example, 4 and 2 are factors of 8 because 4 · 2 = 8, and 8 is divisible by 4 and by 2.
