-The film was unusual for several reasons: the death of the primary actress 40 minutes into the film; it was black & white in a period of color films; the famous shower scene was risqué in 1960 & the murder scene. -There were 78 setups for the shower scene, with 52 cuts; he spent an entire week shooting the 3-minute scene. -There's a model who stands in for Janet Leigh; chocolate sauce is used to represent blood going down the drain; the knife never penetrates skin; when it touches the skin, it's Hitchcock's hand with the knife; the music makes the scene!

What happened to the film industry after MPPC ended?

-The industry moved west -Adolph Zukor had problems with the MPAA -Purchased rights to The Prison of Zenda, which in 1913 became the first feature film -Decided to move to Flagstaff Arizona because of the climate, scenery and land prices; but Arizona wouldn't allow them so they moved to L.A. -This is where they set up Paramount and West Coast film industry

The End of Hollywood's Golden Age

-The rise of commercial television brought competition to Hollywood. -The 1948 Paramount Decree forced studios to sell theaters; without theaters, studios could not maintain the cost of producing films. -Suburban migration was conducive to television watching, not movie going. -Thus, there is a steep decline in movie going.
