TRUE OR FALSE... FOR THE MEDIAN -- half the numbers in the list are less, and half the numbers are greater

*true*

FIND THE MEDIAN

13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13: LIST VALUES IN NUMERICAL ORDER: 13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21: X X X X X X X X: THE MEDIAN IS 14. 14 WAS IN THE MIDDLE

Find the MEAN

ADD: 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13 = 135: ADD NUMBERS: DIVIDE SUM BY AMOUNT OF NUMBERS YOU ADDED TOGETHER; 9 SETS OF NUMBERS WERE ADDED TO GET 135: 135 ÷ 9 = 15: 15 IS THE MEAN

FIND THE RANGE

FOR THE FOLLOWING LIST OF VALUES: 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13: PUT NUMERS IN NUMERICAL ORDER: 13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21: The largest value in the list is 21, and the smallest is 13, so the range is 21 - 13 = 8.

FIND THE MODE

FOR THE FOLLOWING LIST OF VALUES: 13, 18, 13, 14, 13, 16, 14, 21, 13: THE MODE IS THE NUMBER THAT IS REPEATED MORE OFTEN THAN ANY OTHER: 13 IS THE MODE. 13, 13, 13, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 21:

THE "MEAN"

IS THE "AVERAGE": ADD UP ALL THE NUMBERS: THEN DIVIDE THE SUM BY THE AMOUNT OF NUMBERS YOU ADDED TOGETHER. THAT IS YOUR MEAN

THE "MEDIAN"

IS THE "MIDDLE" VALUE IN THE LIST OF NUMBERS. TO FIND THE MEDIAN, YOUR NUMBERS HAVE TO BE LISTED IN NUMERICAL ORDER.

THE "MODE"

IS THE VALUE THAT OCCURS MOST OFTEN. IF NO NUMBER IS REPEATED, THEN THERE IS NO MODE FOR THE LIST.

Find the Median 3, 13, 7, 5, 21, 23, 23, 40, 23, 14, 12, 56, 23, 29

In this example the middle numbers are 21 and 23. To find the value half-way between them, add them together and divide by 2: 21 + 23 = 44 44 ÷ 2 = 22 So the Median in this example is 22.

TO FIND THE RANGE

TAKE THE LARGEST VALUE IN THE LIST AND SUBTRACT FROM THE SMALLEST VALUE IN THE LIST;

Median (what if it is an even set of numbers?)

To find the Median, place the numbers in value order and find the middle number.

Median for even numbers?

Two Numbers in the Middle BUT, when there are an even amount of numbers things are slightly different. In that case we need to find the *middle pair* of numbers, and then find the value that would be half way between them. This is easily done by adding them together and dividing by two.
