How do STDs affect woman?

Woman are more prone to STDs, why? . can cause infertility . can lead to cervical cancer . The vagina is a good enviroment for bacteria to grow in. . Woman can pass STDs to their babies, resulting in stillbirths, brain damage, and low birth weight. (babies can be more prone to infections and be less developed.)

How do you get STDs?

*MAINLY SPREAD THROUGH CONTACT WITH INFECTED BODY FLUIDS* body fluids include: -Blood -vaginal fluids -semen -infected skin or mucous membranes such as mouth sores.

STD or STI?

STD: infections that have a high probability of being spread from person to person through sexual contact. (CAN BE TREATED BUT NOT CURED) STI: a broader term used to describe an infection that CAN BE CURSBLE WITH ANTIBIOTICS.

Chlamydia

-Attacks women's cervix or man's urethra -Infected people won't show symptoms for months or years -MOST COMMON STD *Symptoms* .Pain during intercourse .Thick dicolored discharge from penis or vagina .Infertility or death in women .Pain, fever, and sterility in men -------------------------------------Treatable but not curable

Gonorrhea

-Long term disease -Also known as the "clap" -Affects female's cervix -Males urethra -Throat of both sexes (maybe) *Symptoms* .Burning while urinating .Yellow penile discharge in MEN -------------------------------------Treatable but not curable

Syphilis

-causes a bacterial infection of the genital tract -transmitted when direct contact is made with small painless sores on the mouth, rectum, vagina, or gentials that are unprotected. -Can be transmitted from mother to baby. -Even without sores, disease is still there. -causes sores around gentials, as well as hair loss, sore throat, fever, headaches, and white patchy skinn rashes all over body. Treatable but not curable

HPV

-human papilloma virus -group of more than 150 related viruses -affects 3 quarters of sexually active women. -transmitted through sexual contact. -Does not show symptoms until advanced. - Men usually carry the disease, but dont suffer complications. -Can cause cervical cancer in women. -Vaccines are avalible to prevent the disease.

Genital Herpes

-painful sores on genitals -transmitted skin to skin. .genital to genital .genital to mouth Can be treated, but the virus never goes away and can reoccur 2-4 times a year.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- can be treated but not cured.

.Short term effects: -Anemia -pain and nerve problems -Headaches -fatigue -diarrhea nausea and vomiting .Long term effects: -diabetes -decrease in bone density -build up of waste products in the body -A problem with the way your body produces, uses, and stores fat -Inflammation of the brain and spinal chord.

HIV

.Transmitted via exchange of bodily fluids. *Symptoms* -fever -fatigue -achy muscles -Swollen glands in the throat -sore throat -headaches -skin rash -dry cough -nausea -rapid weight loss -night sweats -frequent yeats infections (women) -cold sores -pneumonia

Hiv vs. Aids

Hiv: virus that may cause an infections. being infected with Hiv can lead to Aids. Aids: Aids is a condition or syndrome. Aids develops when Hiv has caused serious damage to the immune system.
