Financial capital of India: many opportunities for employment and success. TNCs like Vodafone and Primark have call centres and factories, and Bollywood's glamorous image is strong, tempting people to earn money there and try move up the business ladder. High population also means informal job opportunities eg street selling, shoe shining. Electricity, running water and other basic amenities mean a better quality of life. Schools and hospitals are more common and of a higher quality.

Push factors from rural India

High unemployment, dangerous poverty levels, subsistence farming: a vscious cycle. After the 1960s many farm labourers were replaced by machinery. Gurjarat Earthquake 2001 detroyed many homes, some people decided they were not worth rebuilding and simply moved.

Importance nationally and internationally

Home of Bollywood, also big jewellry, fashion and pottery industries (huge exports, small businesses, jobs, culture) Home of Indian Stock Exchange and multiple ports-- most globalised city in South Asia.
